Can the Cotek Gemini charge lithium batteries??
This is a frequently asked question. You probably know that the COTEK Gemini can invert power and charge batteries. Today, we will teach you how to set up the battery mode and charging parameters for lithium batteries.
Gemini SC Series- inverter charger
1. Battery Type Selection introduction
The SC series can connect many types of battery (default setting is Gel). User can select the
battery modes of GEL, Flooded, AGM, Custom by various control options which meet each
battery’s charging characteristics.
- DIP switch
- Protocol communication (RS-232 via PC)
- Remote Controller (CR-20C)
The following table shows four different batteries type and their voltages in each charging stage.
2. Custom Charging Setting introduction
For special battery types including the lithium battery, users can select the Customer battery type via two control options:
- Protocol communication (RS-232 via PC)
- Remote Controller (CR-20C)
Let’s take a look at the below example. It’s a lithium battery data sheet found in the marketplace. We will use the Custom Mode to charge it.
Please follow below steps:
- The max charging voltage is 14.6V (above red circle) (each cell is 3.65V ) in this case.
- The below table is the suggested voltage setting of each charging stage
Based on the max charging voltage 14.6V, the lithium battery is normally composed by 4 cells (3.65V*4cells) in series and the bulk voltage of each cell is 3.65V. Likewise, you can find Absorption and Float voltage in the chart.
Note:
- Bulk 3.65V / per cell
- Absorption 3.55V = Bulk – 0.1V
- Float 3.45V = Absorption – 0.1V
In this scenario, users can set a lower float voltage for longer battery lifetime. If the absorption voltage is decreased from 0.1V to 0.3V it can dramatically extend the battery life.
*Users are supposed to check with the battery manufacturer about the details of battery before setting. Above setting is according to COTEK engineer experience.
*Gemini’s BUVP (Battery Under Voltage Protection) should be higher than the Battery’s Low Voltage Cut-off (10V). In this case – Gemini (12V) BUVP default 10.5VDC > 10V
3. Gemini Model selection
When you choose the model, you may consider the discharging capability of the battery (WH) and the output rated power (W).
- Battery 12Vdc x 105Ah = 1260WH
- For the inverter charger < 1260WH, you can choose Gemini SC-1200 (1200W, 12V)
